WE'RE PLANTING TREES AROUND THE WORLD.
We're planting trees for every booking made through The World Within Us. Trees mea a happy environment, healthy people, and a strong economy. We're proud to replant forests and restore animal habitats with One Tree Planted.
Tourism is responsible for roughly 8% of the world’s carbon emissions, making it a significant contributor to climate change. Every time we fly on a plane, take an uber, stay in a hotel, consume electricity, carbon emissions are being generated. There are ways to reduce our carbon footprint, however, no matter how sustainable our travel habits or lifestyles may be, eliminating carbon emissions entirely is not possible.
A way to also reduce our carbon footprint is Carbon Offsetting, a practical and effective way to combat climate change and reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions.
Carbon offsetting encourages growth and actions towards producing more renewable energy, supporting biodiversity, and reforestation to compensate for emissions that were produced elsewhere. This solution also builds local economies, and communities that are leading initiatives towards building us a more sustainable future.
WE ARE CARBON NEUTRAL. HERE'S HOW
We decarbonize our travel experiences and reduce our transportation related carbon emissions. That means swapping internal flights for train rides, taking local buses, and walking when possible!
INVESTING IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES
We invest in local clean energy and carbon offsetting programs in our travel destinations. This allows us to support local businesses and grassroots organizations in protecting the environment, biodiversity, and clean and efficient energy!
We intentionally choose sustainable and eco-friendly hotels, modes of transportation, and dining places that are good for the planet and support the local economy
OUR CARBON OFFSETTING PROJECTS IN 2021
We are committed to carbon offsetting our travels! At The World Within Us we include carbon offset credits in every single travel package we design. We selected five verified environmental projects in the countries we are visiting that take action with planting trees, conservation efforts, and carbon-reducing activities.
Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve, INDONESIA
Planting trees is one of the most affordable and effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint globally. WeForest provides training in sustainable agricultural practices to local villagers for boosted agriculture and food production, gives seedlings to schools that can plant trees on their school premises, and has planted 1,625,560 trees currently.
The Terai Forest Restoration Project empowers and engages with the local community to regrow and protect the vibrant tropical forests of the Terai region. This project will have planted over 200,000 trees in Nepal and help both the Jhapa and Rautahat village communities.
This is the largest REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) project in the world. Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve protects Indonesia’s bountiful rain forests, wildlife, and local indigenous communities. It has saved Borneo from more than 130 million tonnes of carbon emissions to date.
IRACAMBI Rainforest Protection, BRAZIL
HAND OVER, EGypt
Iracambi Rainforest Protection conserves Brazil’s diverse species of trees and restores the health of the forests. Over the last twenty years, Iracambi has planted over 150,000 trees in remote mountains of Serra do Brigadeiro, conserved rain forest ecosystems, and protected 4,500 hectares of rain forest land.
This social enterprise was founded by female architect and Ashoka sustainability fellow, Radwa Rostom. Hand Over utilizes sustainable construction from environmentally friendly materials and creating rooftop gardens that are beneficial for unprivileged communities.
One Tree Planted,
For every traveler, we plant 10 trees with our partner One Tree Planted. An environmental nonprofit, we are dedicated to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world.
