WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT WORKING AT SOLAR SISTER?

Fatma: The most rewarding part working with Solar Sister is when I see communities transform day by day and the champions to these changes are women. This aligns with our Solar Sister vision that envisions a brighter World powered by women entrepreneurs who raise their income through solar products. With Solar Sister you can see and measure the tangible impact created to women.

LEARN MORE ABOUT SOLAR SISTER:

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO ARUSHA, TANZANIA? WHAT CONTINUES TO INSPIRE YOU ABOUT THIS COUNTRY?

I moved to Arusha in 2013 when I got an interesting job opportunity to work for Solar Sister. I am inspired because this is my original home country, it is a peaceful country.

SOLAR SISTER HAS BUILT SUSTAINABILITY AND GENDER EQUALITY INTO THE CORE OF THEIR BUSINESS. WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS SO IMPORTANT?

This is important because combining clean energy technology with women centered direct sales networks help empower economically and bring energy to remote communities in Tanzania.

WHAT DOES “EMPOWERMENT” MEAN TO YOU? HOW DO YOU STRIKE TO EMPOWER EVERY SINGLE WOMAN TOUCHED BY SOLAR SISTER?

Empowerment means both building a positive mindset and economic independence. We empower every woman by training and giving them access to economic opportunities.

IS THERE A PIECE OF ADVICE YOU GIVE A YOUNG PERSON WHO WANTS TO SEE OUR WORLD OR MAKE A CHANGE?

The change starts from within the person therefore, aptitude, positive attitude, and courage should be within the person.

NAME THREE WOMEN THAT INSPIRE YOU EVERYDAY AND WHY?

Katherine Lucy, Neha Misra, and mama Samia Suluhu. They are strong women, they stand for what they say, are courageous women, and support women empowerment.

WHAT GLOBAL GOAL ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?

I am passionate about SDGs 7 and 5, which are Affordable and Clean Energy and Gender Equality because I want to see that everyone has access to clean energy and women run their economic/business activities with equal rights as men.
