What has been the most rewarding part of being a tour guide and Founder of It's My Egypt?

For me the most rewarding part about being a tour guide in Egypt is that I've learned a lot from meeting new people everywhere in the world. I’m a totally different person now; each one of these travelers has impacted me in a beautiful way and encouraged me to keep going. That’s the most rewarding thing for me, because I kept going!

LEARN MORE ABOUT IT'S MY EGYPT:

What do you believe makes Egypt a desirable travel destination?

I believe that the Giza Pyramids is the most important thing that makes people around the world want to come to Egypt , I have seen people cry, others laugh like crazy and scream “we made it, we made it,” and even a woman who came to celebrate her 50th birthday there because it was her dream since she was 10 years old. Many reactions!

Is there a piece of advice you would give a young person who wants to see our world or make a change?

Believe it or not, you can do it - just trust yourself.

What Global Goal are you most passionate about?

All of them. Of course all that bring peace and nothing but peace.

What has been the most impactful thing you learned growing up, that has carried you into your current success?

NEVER quit, LOSE those who make you feel low. Do not let them get in your way and be very confident in yourself because you can make it and nothing can stop you but yourself.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in this industry?

This question made me smile because being a woman wasn’t an issue in the tourism industry but being a single mother was the greatest challenge. My kids were 5 years old when I started my work and now they are 9 so they needed me to be there most of the times from feeding them, helping doing their homework, laundry, ironing, and cleaning. But I tried my best and found time to make itineraries for my guests and do the tours too - all that by myself. I DID IT AND AM STILL DOING IT!

What inspires you about Egypt and female empowerment projects here?

The thing that continues to inspire me about the women of Egypt that they are fighters, fighting the negative habits or norms that are sometimes found in our society and they try their best to prove themselves. I really want my twin girls to be strong and to know when to use their hearts and when to not let their emotions or hearts make them weak.

What is your most memorable tour experience?

The most memorable tour experience I had was with a traveler named Bill. He was sick and struggled with his eyesight but he had always dreamed that one day he would get to see the Giza Pyramids with his beloved wife, Barbara. When he came he couldn’t see anything but shades - I still can’t forget holding his hand to make him feel the pyramids and holding his arms most of the time. It reminded me of holding the hands of my own father, who had passed away a long time ago. It was an experience I will never forget.
