MEET YOUR HOST

Anina, the founder of The World Within Us, will be traveling to Brazil to experience the colorful city of Rio De Janeiro and the powerful Iguazu Falls. Also recognizing and supporting Catalytic Communities for their incredible work towards integrating sustainability into the favela networks and communities.

Anina traveled to Brazil in 2016, then traveled back again in 2019. During her travels fell in love with the vibrant energy of Rio De Janeiro, the culture and samba music! She also crossed off her bucket-list, one of the most beautiful locations in the world, Iguazu Falls. Join Anina on this journey to Brazil!

PROUDLY PARTNERED WITH

CATALYTIC COMMUNITIES

Catalytic Communities is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Rio de Janeiro residents by driving a creative, inclusive and empowering community-led integration between the city’s informal and formal communities, in which the city’s favelas are recognized for their heritage status and their residents fully served as equal citizens. This is done through a combination of education, research, training, strategic communications, technology, networks, advocacy, and participatory planning.

SDG 11: SUSTAINABLE cities & communities

Make inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable

More than half of the world's population lives in cities. By 2050, two-thirds of all humanity—6.5 billion people—will be urban. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without significantly transforming the way we build and manage our urban spaces.  Making cities sustainable means creating career and business opportunities, safe and affordable housing, and building resilient societies and economies. It involves investment in public transport, creating green public spaces, and improving urban planning and management in participatory and inclusive ways.

SDG 16: PEACE, JUSTICE, AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels

We cannot hope for sustainable development without peace, stability, human rights, and effective governance.  Some regions of the world enjoy peace, security, and prosperity, while others fall into seemingly endless cycles of conflict and violence. The SDGs aim to significantly reduce all forms of violence, and work with governments and communities to end conflict and insecurity. Promoting the rule of law and human rights are key to this process, as is reducing the flow of illicit arms and strengthening the participation of developing countries in the institutions of global governance.
